Discreet 7kW charger install

The challenge here was distance: the only sensible parking spot sat twelve metres from the consumer unit, on the far side of the driveway. A lazy install would have surface-clipped grey cable across the render. Instead we routed the run through discreet trunking and along existing lines so it reads as part of the house.

The property’s 60A main fuse didn’t leave much headroom for a 7kW load on top of an electric shower and oven, so rather than push the homeowner toward an expensive supply upgrade we fitted a CT clamp for load management. The charger now monitors the whole-house draw and eases back automatically at peak times — reliable overnight charging, no nuisance trips, no upgrade bill.
